You must know that BigPond Mail has been taken over by Telstra. So the mail server settings have been changed. We provide you with the updated mail server settings, so you don't get stranded while configuring your email settings. Avoid using old BigPond settings because they may not work.

And in this article, we are using the word “Telstra,” so don't get confused.

Look below for the incoming and outgoing mail server settings and other important settings to send and receive Telstra emails using your email service provider.

Bigpond IMAP SETTINGS

Suppose you prefer to use IMAP instead of POP, check out the following settings. IMAP syncs your email with the mail server, which means whatever you do to your email, like a reply, delete, or marking it as read, will be updated across all your devices.

Incoming Server Settings (IMAP)

  • Step :1Incoming server: imap.telstra.com
  • Step :2Incoming server port: 993
  • Step :3Encrypted connection type: SSL

Outgoing Server Settings

  • Step : 1 Outgoing server: smtp.telstra.com
  • Step : 2 Outgoing server port: 465 (recommended port) or 587
  • Step : 3 SMTP authentication: Yes
  • Step : 4 Encrypted connection type: SSL/TLS on port 465 (highly recommended) or STARTTLS on port 587
  • Step : 5 Username: Telstra account email address (for example, ‘sampleid@telstra.com’)
  • Step : 6 Password: Telstra account email password (Remember, the password is case sensitive)

Once you have entered all the above settings, make sure that the 'Outgoing server requires authentication' option is selected.

POP SETTINGS

And, if you prefer POP instead of IMAP, use the below settings. The main factor in which POP differs from IMAP is that POP does not synchronize your emails with the email server, so even if you delete an email, reply to it, or mark it as read, it will only apply on that particular device.

Incoming Server Settings (POP)

  • Step :1Incoming server: pop.telstra.com
  • Step :2Incoming server port: 995
  • Step :3Encrypted connection type: SSL

Outgoing Server Settings

  • Step :1Outgoing server: smtp.telstra.com
  • Step :2Outgoing server port: 465 (recommended port) or 587
  • Step :3SMTP Authentication: Yes
  • Step :4Encrypted connection type: SSL/TLS on port 465 (highly recommended) or STARTTLS on port 587
  • Step :5Username: Telstra account email address (for example, ‘sampleacc@telstra.com’)
  • Step :6Password: Telstra email account password (Password is case sensitive)

After entering the updated Telstra settings, make sure the Outgoing server requires authentication option is checked.
