Unpacking the box

  • Begin the setup process by unboxing your printer. (Note: If you have already unboxed the product, then skip the following steps).
  • Check to make sure that the following components, drum unit toner cartridge, Brother Installation Disc, Quick Setup Guide, reference guide, and product safety guide, are provided along with the printer.
  • Now, unpack your printer completely by removing all the packing materials / tapes present on it.
  • After unpacking the printer, place it on a neat or dust-free surface and continue the setup process by following the instructions given below.

Installing the drum unit toner cartridge

  • Open your Brother printer’s front door.
  • Now, take the drum unit toner cartridge out of its package.
  • Remove the orange part surrounding the cartridge.
  • Now, insert the unpacked toner cartridge into your printer.
  • Make sure that the drum unit toner cartridge assembly is installed properly and close the front door of your printer.

Loading paper 

  • Pull out the paper tray.
  • Move the width guides towards the edges of the tray.
  • Now, load a stack of A4 or U.S. paper in the tray.
  • Adjust the guides correctly.
  • Place the tray back into your printer.

Turning on the printer

  • Connect your Brother printer to an electrical outlet using its power cord.
  • Make sure that the printer is connected directly to the outlet.
  • Now, press the Power button on the printer to turn it on. 
  • Wait for the printer to complete its initial boot-up and become stable.
  • When prompted, configure the initial printer settings, such as language, time, etc., as per your needs, and press OK.

Connecting the printer to a computer or smartphone

For computer

  • Run the Brother HL-L2350DW printer driver on your computer.
  • When prompted, choose the connection type that you wish to use to connect your printer to the computer.
  • Install the printer driver to complete the setup.

For smartphone

  • Install the Brother iPrint and Scan app on your smartphone.
  • Connect both the devices (printer and the smartphone) to the same wireless network.
  • Launch the app and perform the on-screen instructions to connect the printer to your smartphone.
  • Finally, print a test page to check whether the Brother HL-L2350DW printer setup is done correctly. 
  • If the printer prints the test page successfully, then it means the setup is done properly.

  • As soon as you click on any one of these buttons, your current OS type will be auto-detected, and the printer driver available for it will start to download.
  • Once the printer driver is downloaded, you can begin the setup process on your computer.


  • Double-click on the printer driver file.
  • Agree to the EULA of the printer manufacturer.
  • When prompted, choose the connection that you wish to use and the additional software that you want to install on your computer.
  • Perform the on-screen instructions to install the printer driver on your computer.
  • Download the printer driver by referring to the steps mentioned in the previous section.
  • Once the download gets completed, go to the destination folder and run the setup file.
  • Follow the on-screen step-by-step instructions, agree to the end-user license agreement, and install the printer driver on your computer.


You can set up the Brother HL-L2350DW printer over a wireless network using either the traditional method or the WPS method. The following instructions explain the wireless setup using the traditional method.

  • Initially, check to make sure that your Brother printer is ready for the wireless setup. 
  • Next, gather your wireless network’s credentials such as SSID and password if you have no idea about it.
  • Make sure that your wireless router and the computer are turned on.
  • Similarly, make sure that your computer is connected to the wireless network that you wish to use to connect the printer.
  • Now, from your printer’s home screen, select the Network option.
  • Choose WLAN Setup Wizard On.

  • To finish the wireless setup, install the printer driver on your computer. 
  • If you wish to install the printer on your smartphone, then connect the smartphone to the wireless network and use the Brother iPrint and Scan app to finish the wireless setup.


As the first step of the print setup, check whether your printer’s initial setup, such as configuring the basic settings, loading paper in the tray/manual feed slot, and installing the drum unit toner cartridge, are done. If not, finish them, and then continue the following instructions.

For computer

  • Connect your Brother printer and the Windows or Mac computer over a wireless, wired, or USB connection.
  • Make sure that your printer’s necessary drivers are installed on the computer.
  • Set the Brother printer as the default on your computer.
  • Make sure that the document type that you want to print is compatible with your printer’s specifications.
  • Open the Print Properties dialog box.
  • Configure the print settings such as print resolution, type, etc., as per your needs.
  • Finally, print the document.
  • The macOS users can also use the AirPrint feature to initiate the print operation from their Mac computer to the printer. 
  • Before using this feature, check whether your printer is added to the computer and the AirPrint option is enabled on it. If not, follow the below instructions.
  • On your Mac computer’s Printers Scanners screen, under the Printers section, click the Plus icon followed by the Add Printer or Scanner option. 
  • Now, choose your printer, and from the Use pop-up menu, select the AirPrint option.
  • Click the Add button.

For smartphone

  • Using the Brother iPrint Scan app, install the printer on your smartphone.
  • After installing the printer, select the document that you want to print from the printer app and follow the on-screen instructions.
  • If you’re using an iOS device, then you can use the AirPrint feature to print the document from your phone to the printer. 
  • But, initially, enable the AirPrint feature on your printer if you haven’t enabled it. To do so, from a browser, go to the printer’s Web-Based Management page. Select Network Protocol AirPrint Submit. Now, restart your Brother printer.


When the printer encounters a problem, an error message relating to the same is displayed on its screen. As soon as the error message is displayed on the screen, first, try to identify the cause of it and then perform the necessary troubleshooting instructions to clear it. Some error messages that are displayed on the printer screen and the troubleshooting solutions for the same are given below.

No Paper T1

  • If the printer’s paper tray is empty, then this error message is displayed on the screen.
  • Re-fill the tray with the paper if it is empty.
  • If the tray is full, then reload the paper in it.

Cartridge error

  • The incorrect installation of the cartridge may lead to this error. So, first, check whether the drum unit and toner cartridge are installed correctly. 
  • If not, remove and install them properly.
  • Make sure that the cartridge is unpacked properly.
  • If the cartridge is damaged, then replace it with a new one.

Print Unable ##

This error message is related to the mechanical issue with your printer. To fix it, restart your printer.

Cannot detect the toner cartridge

When your Brother printer fails to detect the installed toner cartridge, this message is displayed on its screen. 

  • Check whether the toner cartridge is installed properly. If not, remove and install the cartridge into the printer.
  • Make sure that the toner cartridge that you’re using is compatible with your printer.
  • Replace the toner cartridge if you find it is damaged or incompatible.

Some simple solutions to resolve the printer issues

  • Restart your Brother printer and the computer or smartphone.
  • Update the printer firmware if available.
  • Similarly, update your computer or smartphone OS.
  • Re-install the printer driver if you have installed the wrong one.
  • Re-connect your printer to the computer.

If the basic solution doesn’t fix the printer issues, then reset its settings to default.

  • Choose the Initial Setup option from the printer’s home screen.

  • Once the configured settings are restored, the printer will restart.
