The Outlook email client lets you access one or more email accounts simultaneously.

If Outlook stops responding on your computer, then the section below will help you to resolve the issue. 

If you are facing this issue for the first time, then close and restart Outlook. If the issue persists, then make sure that Outlook is updated. If not, update it by following the instructions given below.

Once the update process is completed, launch the Outlook application and check if the issue is resolved.

  • Step : 1 Open the Outlook application.
  • Step : 2 Click the File menu followed by Office Account. 
  • Step : 3 Select the Update Options option followed by Update Now.

If you see a message saying Processing, while Outlook not responding, then follow the instruction given below.

Step One: Launch Outlook in Safe mode

  • Step : 1 First, close the Outlook application if it is running.
  • Step : 2 Now, launch the Outlook application in safe mode.
  • Step : 3 To do so, perform the following step:
  • Step : 4 For Windows 10 users: Click Start. In the search field, type the Outlook.exe/safe keyword and tap the Enter button.
  • Step : 5 For Windows 7 users: Click the Start button. Type the Outlook/safe command in the Search field. Click the OK button.
  • Step : 6 Now, exit the Outlook application.
  • Step : 7 After a while, open Outlook and check if the issue is resolved.

Step Two: Check if any dialog box is opened

  • Step : 1 Usually, there is a chance for Outlook to ask for confirmation.
  • Step : 2 For example, when you click the Dismiss All button, a dialog box displaying the message Are sure you want to do that will appear on the screen. If you have clicked it, then Outlook stops responding to your request.
  • Step : 3 To check for opened dialog boxes, press the Alt and Tab buttons at the same time. So that, you can switch from one window to another easily
  • Step : 4 If you are unable to find any such dialog boxes, move on to the next step.

Step Three: Update Windows and Outlook

  • Step : 1 Make sure that the Outlook application and your Windows OS are up-to-date.
  • Step : 2 If not, update them and check if the issue is resolved.

Step Four: Repair your Office programs

  • Step : 1 To repair the Office programs, close all existing Office program(s).
  • Step : 2 Go to your Windows computer’s Control Panel section.
  • Step : 3 Select the Programs and Features option.
  • Step : 4 Choose and right-click on the Microsoft Office program installed on your computer.
  • Step : 5 Click the Change button. 
  • Step : 6 Once the repair process is completed, check if the Outlook stops responding issue is resolved.
