How To Solve Windows Live Mail Authentication Failed?
Windows Live Mail is an email client application that was a part of the Windows Live Essentials suite. Microsoft stopped Windows Live Mail, but users can continue to access Windows Mail or Outlook's Windows Live mail emails.
When you try to send or receive emails on Windows Live Mail, you might face the authentication error. The error occurs due to incorrect email server settings and authentication settings. We use IMAP or POP for receiving email and SMTP for sending an email, and the settings have to be right for the email client to work.

Solution-1: Check the email server settings
- Step : 1Open the Windows Live Mail app on your computer and click the Accounts tab.
- Step : 2You can find the list of accounts added to the app. Select your email account, and click Properties.
- Step : 3Once the Properties window shows up, click the Servers tab and check if the POP3 and SMTP host addresses are correct.
- Step : 4Then, go to the Advanced tab and make sure the port numbers of incoming and outgoing servers are correct.
- Step : 5Under Outgoing Mail Server, tick the checkbox of My server requires authentication to enable the outgoing server to authenticate your outgoing mails.
- Step : 6Next, select the Settings button to open the Outgoing Mail Server box.
- Step : 7You can either use the same login information of incoming mail server or enter a new Account name and Password for outgoing mail server authentication.
- Step : 8If you want the application to remember the password, click the checkbox beside Remember password and click OK.
- Step : 9In case you do not check the Remember Password, you have to enter the Username and Password every time you send an email from your account.
- Step : 10Change the server settings if required and click OK to save it.
- Step : 11After the change is done, relaunch the Windows Live Mail app and check if you can send and receive emails on your account.
Solution-2: Restart the app
- Step : 1When you change the email server authentication password, sometimes, the app may not remember the password and shows an error when you try to log in.
- Step : 2Close the application and relaunch it, then see if you can send or receive emails.
- Step : 3If the error persists, remove the email account from the app, restart the computer, and re-add it to the app.
